Invaderz (Print)
Invaderz — Original Edition (Print)
Invade Earth. Entertain the Emperor. Betray your squadmates before they betray you.
Greetings, Jerkian warrior elite!
You were created in the clone tanks of Clonius from the sacred tissue of the vast Jerkian Emperor. Your life, service and loyalty belong entirely to His Obese Omnipotence.
This is an extraordinary privilege.
It is also likely to get you killed.
Invaderz is a fast, light-hearted science-fiction roleplaying game in which the players become low-ranking soldiers of the Jerkian Empire, sent to conquer Earth for the glory—and entertainment—of their enormous ruler.
Serve the Greatest Empire in the Galaxy
The Jerkian Empire is all-conquering and all-powerful. It possesses the finest uniforms, the most advanced weapons and, according to every approved source of information, the greatest leader the universe has ever known.
As one of its warrior clones, you will be sent on peculiar missions by High Command using advanced and occasionally unreliable alien technology.
Success may earn merit and promotion.
Failure may amuse the Emperor.
Death may amuse him even more.
Promotion Through Merit, Treachery and Survival
Jerkian soldiers occupy the lower reaches of a rigid imperial hierarchy.
Higher rank brings privilege, authority and—most importantly—fewer missions in which horrible death is practically guaranteed.
Characters may improve their prospects by completing their orders, entertaining the Emperor and betraying their fellow warriors before those warriors have the same idea.
The invasion of Earth is therefore a cooperative military operation in much the same sense that a sack full of starving rats is a cooperative dining arrangement.
Complete the mission.
Claim the credit.
Blame somebody else.
A Beer-and-Crisps Roleplaying Game
Invaderz was created as a quick, accessible alternative to longer and more demanding campaigns.
Its ultra-light rules use a simple D6-plus-bonus system, related to the system used in Urban Faerie. Characters are straightforward to create, and the mechanics are intended to support fast, silly play rather than arguments over technical interpretation.
This is a game for:
-
One-off sessions.
-
Convention games.
-
Emergency evenings when the regular campaign cannot run.
-
Groups seeking fast science-fiction comedy.
-
Players willing to embrace betrayal, incompetence and experimental equipment.
-
Anyone who prefers their alien invasions broad, anarchic and thoroughly unserious.
The Original Edition
This is the original edition of Invaderz, first published before the later revised Pocket Edition.
It presents the original game of Jerkian warriors invading present-day Earth with malfunctioning alien technology, simple rules and a tone of relentless imperial propaganda.
The later Pocket Edition added new material of its own; this listing is for the earlier version.
Five-Star Comedic Alien Misadventure
A reviewer of the original edition awarded it 5 out of 5, praising:
-
The plentiful retro, 8-bit-style artwork as well suited to the tone.
-
Characters that are quick and uncomplicated to create.
-
Mechanics that support the game’s deliberately silly style.
-
An approachable, “just wing it” approach to running adventures.
-
Writing that establishes the joke immediately and sustains it throughout.
-
A setting that makes it easy to devise further missions.
The reviewer reported laughing aloud several times during the first read and concluded that they wished they could rate it even higher.
The game has also been described by its creator as particularly successful for conventions, where its combination of quick rules, disposable characters and deliberate comedy regularly produces a riotous session.
Conquer Earth for His Immenseness
Your squad has been assembled.
Your equipment has been issued.
Your orders make very little sense.
Somebody must conquer Earth, entertain the Emperor and take the blame when everything inevitably goes wrong.
That somebody is probably you.
Kneel before the Jerkian elite!
This listing is for the physical print edition of the original Invaderz roleplaying game by James Desborough. It is not the later revised Invaderz: Pocket Edition. An ordinary six-sided die and normal gaming materials are required and are not included. Contains crude and adult humour.
