FIVE MORE REASONS TO STAY OUT OF THE DUNGEON

The average fantasy world contains an extraordinary number of adventurers and a regrettable shortage of things capable of eating them.

Fistful of Foes #5 continues the Schlocktoberfest series with five quick-and-dirty monsters for fifth-edition-compatible fantasy games.

No sprawling ecology chapters.

No extensive discussion of the creature’s influence upon regional textile production.

Just five new monsters from a twisted imagination, ready to be dropped into encounters, dungeons, wilderness expeditions and whatever other dreadful situations your players have unwisely entered.

FIVE NOVEL MONSTERS

BICORNES

Chaotic guardians of nature at its wildest.

Bicornes belong in the deep wilderness, where civilisation has not yet managed to put up fences, establish a gift shop or insist that the local wildlife behave itself.

Use them to defend ancient forests, forbidden valleys and places where nature has become too powerful, too angry or too strange to tolerate intruders.

They may be guardians.

That does not mean they are friendly.

GIANT HERMIT CRABS

A hermit crab survives by occupying whatever shell it can find.

A giant hermit crab has considerably more options.

These enormous crustaceans use the craziest things for protection, allowing the Games Master to turn wreckage, discarded objects and pieces of the local scenery into mobile armour.

A strange object upon the beach may not be abandoned.

It may simply be resting.

CORPSE OOZE

Zombie?

Ooze?

Why choose?

The Corpse Ooze combines two reliable dungeon problems into one particularly unpleasant package.

It is suitable for crypts, sewers, laboratories, battlefields and any place where magical slime has been allowed to mingle with the improperly buried dead.

Some creatures devour corpses.

Others animate them.

The Corpse Ooze demonstrates the value of efficiency.

FLENSER

Flayers of body and muscle.

Flensers are creatures for Games Masters who believe losing hit points is insufficiently personal.

They bring a visceral edge to horror encounters and make useful inhabitants for torture chambers, charnel pits, corrupted temples or the workshops of people whose experiments were rejected by every reputable institution.

The name tells you most of what you need to know.

The remainder will become apparent when it reaches the characters.

OTOMOU

Radioactive little horrors from the bowels of the earth.

The Otomou emerge from below carrying the malign influence of whatever has poisoned, altered or empowered them.

They can be used in caverns, mines, subterranean ruins or regions contaminated by strange magic and forgotten forces.

Perhaps they guard something beneath the earth.

Perhaps they are fleeing from it.

Neither possibility is encouraging.

QUICK, DIRTY AND READY TO USE

Fistful of Foes #5 is designed for Games Masters who need fresh opposition without purchasing an encyclopaedia or devoting an afternoon to preparing a single encounter.

The five creatures can be used as:

  • Standalone encounters

  • Wandering monsters

  • Guardians of treasure or forbidden places

  • The central threat in a short adventure

  • Unusual additions to an existing dungeon

  • Inspiration for larger groups, regions or campaigns

  • Nasty surprises for players who believe they recognise every monster

Use them as presented, alter them to suit your campaign or treat them as the beginning of something larger and considerably more unpleasant.

DESIGNED FOR THE SCREEN

The supplement is presented in a screen-friendly size and format, making it easy to reference from a tablet or laptop during play.

Keep it open beside your notes, select something horrible and introduce it at the moment when the players have finally begun to feel safe.

This is a PDF electronic download for use with fifth-edition-compatible fantasy role-playing games.

You can find the other Fistful of Foes and fifth-edition supplements here.

Five monsters.

Five stat blocks.

Five fresh opportunities to ask the players whether they are absolutely certain they want to open that door.
