Sacred Marks
Sacred Marks — PDF Edition
Make sacred obligation and consequence matter in play.
Sacred Marks is a rules-light, system-neutral fantasy roleplaying toolkit for adding sacred obligation to an existing game.
It is designed to make temples, shrines, roads, graves, meals, thresholds, names, vows and debts active parts of play rather than background description.
The Sacred Die
At the centre of the book is the Sacred Die, a shared and visible measure of the group’s sacred standing.
It rises when the characters honour a sacred obligation at genuine cost. It falls when sacred standing is spent or profaned.
The Sacred Die can be rolled when characters ask the sacred to:
-
Heal.
-
Protect.
-
Judge.
-
Reveal.
-
Bless.
-
Forgive.
-
Deliver.
Fast Setup
To establish the sacred logic of a campaign, the group defines:
-
Three duties.
-
Three taboos.
-
Three common requests.
-
One visible sign of favour.
Play can then begin around a shrine, grave, road, meal, threshold, oath, missing body or unpaid debt.
Included Material
Sacred Marks provides:

The rules do not replace a game’s gods, clerics, magic, alignment, reputation or social systems. They add a shared layer for obligation and consequence.
This is not a real-world religious commentary, morality lecture, cleric class book or setting that must be adopted wholesale.
What is owed here? What is forbidden here? Who is watching? What would mercy cost?
